The Maples in Fall!

I’ve heard few times that the stretch between 137 ave and 153 ave on 97 street show case a colorful landscape in fall season and is famous among photographers to catch best glimpses of multi colored landscape. Incidentally it’s fall and we are thinking to walk a trail that has good scenery along. Searching online shows you only areas around river valley to view fall colors, but this time we want to explore some area outside downtown. Hmmm….. I think this is the right time to walk THIS trail. I floated this idea to other two fellas and within seconds it was finalized.

Now it was my responsibility to plan the track but this stretch was only 1 and half kilometers long and we were not ready to walk less than 6 kilometers. So the stretch was doubled towards north to make it more than 3 kilometers long one side. Now our route was gonna be 137 ave to 167 ave and return.

Weather again is wet with a forecast of snow. Yesterday’s visit to Beaumaris Lake was not that bad in terms of rain, but today we couldn’t walk without umbrellas. Temperature wass about 2 degree with wind chill of -1. Motivation to go out for a walk was little low but high determination got us out of the beds at the decided time and we hit the road right at 7 am.

Our starting point was a car parking beside Northgate bus station. We started to walk on the trail and found ourselves in a thick wood covered pathway that was not wide enough for all of us to walk together, on top of that our umbrellas also didn’t let us walk and talk together. Eventually we were walking in a line behind each other, and guess what, It was a silent walk all the way!

The stretch between 137 ave and 153 ave was full of thick woods around, but as we crossed the 153 ave, landscape changed and became wide open and light was improved too.

As this trail is known for its fall tree colors, but was it in its full bloom in mid September? I don’t think so! I think end of September would have been a better time to get a full rich fall view.

For recommendation, this is certainly a good track to do, and I’ll rate it 4.6 out of 5. Best time to walk this track is end of September and find a sunny day to get a full view out of it.
